Hunger Awareness Month

May 2024

Descriptions:

Warehouse Tour:

Visit EFN’s Distribution Center in Lakewood to learn about EFN and the local emergency food system! The tour will start at noon and takes about 30 minutes. Because the tour takes place in our warehouse, we require closed-toe shoes for entry. RSVP here to secure your spot!

Mother Earth Farm:

EFN’s Mother Earth Farm is an 8-acre organic farm located in the beautiful Puyallup Valley. Food from the farm is typically available to our neighbors in need within 24-hours of harvest. It would not be possible to provide this fresh food option to our neighbors in need without the help of volunteers. In the spring, volunteers at the farm assist with seeding, weeding, composting, and irrigation. Register to volunteer here or email evanm@efoodnet.org.

GiveBig:

GiveBig is a statewide fundraising campaign exclusive to Washington. Early giving started April 23rd and the official GiveBig days are May 7th and 8th.  Support GiveBig at Emergency Food Network | Donate | Washington Gives (wagives.org).

Community Repack:

Join other community members for our Repack Project! Repack Project volunteers transform bulk food shipments into family-sized portions that are ready to help feed the community! At our Lakewood Distribution Center, you and your fellow volunteers might find yourselves bagging up oats, pasta, or rice or packing local produce bags for our Home Delivery recipients. Once repackaged the food is ready to go out to the 75+ Pierce County food pantries, meal sites, and shelters that we serve. Register online at: MyImpactPage – Emergency Food Network (betterimpact.com)

Hunger Walk:

Take steps to feeding our neighbors in need by registering for the Hunger Walk! Enjoy a scenic walk around Waughop Lake at Fort Steilacoom Park and raise money to help keep food pantry shelves stocked this summer. Volunteer opportunities are also available, to learn more about volunteering email evanm@efoodnet.org

Letter Carrier's Food Drive:

The Letter Carriers’ Food Drive is our largest food drive each year and everyone in Pierce County can participate! Just leave a bag of shelf-stable food at your mailbox on Saturday, May 11th.  Suggested food donations can be found on our website https://www.efoodnet.org/ways-to-give/give-food/. You can also volunteer to help pick up food and unload food at post offices, to learn more about volunteering email evanm@efoodnet.org.
