EFN’s Response to Hunger in 2026

How Our Community Can Address Rising Hunger in Pierce County

Our Response in 2026

In response to growing demand, EFN has set a concrete goal: 20 million pounds of food distributed across Pierce County. This is not a slogan, but a response to what the numbers require. We are refining our systems to meet this moment including reducing waste, improving logistics, strengthening coordination with our 75+ partner pantries so food moves quickly and equitably throughout the county.

But no organization solves the crisis alone. Lasting change begins when a community sees clearly and acts together.

Expanding Civic Participation and Awareness

This is where our broader community plays a critical role, civic action.

  • We cannot confront what we refuse to name. Share the facts. Speak plainly about the 15% increase in visits this January, following a year that has already broken every record.
  • Help people find food. One of the most common questions we receive is simple: Where can I go? Share our online pantry map. Make sure neighbors know where help is available. Information is not small, it is access.
  • Strengthen the system through service. Volunteer at local food pantries. If you are looking for opportunities, the United Way of Pierce County can help connect you.
  • And stay engaged in policy. Hunger is shaped by wages, housing, healthcare, and public benefits. We recently testified in support of EHB 2211, now on the Governor’s desk, a reminder that democracy still responds when communities participate.
