Mother Earth Farm Update

This season we choose to extend our fall cropping cycling at EFN’s Mother Earth Farm and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results. We gambled on good weather for a healthy fall crop and we got it.

Staff at the farm has been happily harvesting our fall apples, beautiful Brussel sprouts, and vibrant winter squashes. We said a final goodbye to our tomatoes and summer squash. We have been cutting our lettuce, arugula, and mustard greens for salad mixes. This month alone we grew and harvested almost 23,000 lbs of food, which puts our current yearly total at a little under 110,000 lbs of farm fresh food.

In addition, we have been putting our soil to bed for the winter by growing a cover crop to keep our soils healthy during the upcoming cold rainy days.

Harvested this month: lettuce, chard, carrots, beets, turnips, rutabagas, kohlrabi, summer squash, winter squash, cucumbers, radishes, mustard, mizuna, arugula, salad mix, celeriac, kale, collards, Brussel  sprouts, and tomatoes
