Mother Earth Farm Update

July’s heat wave was just what our tomatoes, summer squash, and peaches needed to sweeten up! This month has been our biggest harvest so far this season EFN’s Mother Earth Farm! We love watching the freshly harvested produce leave our farm when food pantries come to pick up and we are even more thrilled to know it is going into the hands of our neighbors in need.

Like any good farmer, our eyes are looking towards the future, so in between marathon harvests the crew and volunteers are busy seeding and transplanting for the fall. When that work is done, we are weeding!

July featured two outstanding volunteer events, Wine and Weeding and our fourth Brewer’s Night. It seems a drink or two mixed with some vegetable puns makes all that hard work of weeding a whole lot more fun.

At this point we have harvested roughly 50,000 lbs of fresh produce for Pierce County food pantries, but we are not ‘beet’ yet.

Harvested this month: beets, carrots, napa cabbage, green cabbage, mizuna, bok choi, arugula, mustard, kohlrabi, kale, chard, lettuce, tomatoes, zucchini, radishes, turnips, tomitillos, peppers, collards, cilantro, cucumber, apples, plums, peaches, blackberries
