Adopt-a-Row seeds have been planted!

We are super excited to have AFSCME WSCCCE Local 3787 join us for this year’s Adopt-a-Row program at Mother Earth Farm! While the spring has started off very wet, their group was still able to come out on March 10 for orientation and seed planting. They will take care of three rows of Russian kale throughout the growing season. Once ready, these nutritious and delicious greens will go directly to food pantries and given to our neighbors in need.

Local 3787 is a group of wonderful volunteers with big hearts! Check out this Q&A we had with them to learn more about their unique group.

What motivated your group to be a part of the Mother Earth Farm’s Adopt-a-Row program?
We are a group of librarians and librarian support staff that serve Pierce county. We love Pierce county. The mission of EFN and Mother Earth Farm is centered around serving Pierce – just like we do. We want to give back to our community; we want to get out outside and get our hands dirty, and we want to learn more about farming.

What would you like others to know about your group?
We are a part of the AFSCME Local 3787 Union and that is how our group came together. We are a super diverse group. At orientation, we came with 19 people ranging in ages from preteens to retired folks. We are coming to Mother Earth Farm to create more community. It is also important for people to know a few of the libraries have garden programs, like in Tukwila. Our community libraries are more than just books; we are community centers!

As a group, what yummy dish would you decide to be and why?
A mixed green salad with meat. A cobb salad? Roasted root veggies? We would be a lot of things because the libraries are a place of meeting for lots of different people and ideas. So, we would be the best dinner you have ever eaten!
