When times are hard, Pierce County shows up for one another. As Pierce County’s largest emergency food distributor, Emergency Food Network is here to help our community through moments of crisis.
Now, we’re facing another one. Tomorrow, Nov. 1, federal funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will run out. For thousands of local families, that means the dollars they count on to buy groceries could disappear. This is a critical moment — and together, we can act.
What can you do right now?
Check on your neighbors.
Reach out to friends, coworkers, or neighbors who are federal workers or SNAP recipients. A simple offer of help or a shared resource can make all the difference. You can find up-to-date food resources on the Find Food page on our website: Find Food – Emergency Food Network.Donate.
Make a direct donation to EFN or one of our partner programs. Food pantries leverage every dollar into more meals for our community.
Host a Food or Fund Drive.
Organize a collection for Emergency Food Network or your local food pantry. Every can and every dollar helps us keep food flowing to more than 75 Pierce County food pantries and meal sites.Volunteer your time.
If you’re able, lend a hand to your local food pantry. Thanks to our friends at United Way for creating a central hub of volunteering opportunities with all of our partners. Find it here: Volunteers Giving Back Through Service | United Way of Pierce CountySpeak up for food access.

We’re deeply grateful to Washington State, Pierce County, the City of Tacoma, and so many others stepping up to fill the gap during this crisis. Their leadership and collaboration make this work possible.
EFN exists for moments like this — when uncertainty grows, and neighbors need one another most. Together, we can ensure that no family in Pierce County faces hunger alone.
