Repack Project – MLK Day of Service @ Emergency Food Network
Jan 15 @ 9:00 am – 11:30 am

Volunteers at Emergency Food Network’s Repack Project prepare bulk foods for distribution by repackaging the foods into smaller, family-sized portions. Bulk foods include rice, beans, oats, frozen corn and peas, oranges, and apples. Once repackaged the food is ready to go out to the 68 Pierce County food pantries, meal sites, and shelters that we serve. Each year, volunteers repackage more than 1 million pounds of food or what is equivalent to 3 meals-a-day for 285 families!

No experience necessary! EFN staff will provide you with orientation, training, and supervision.

Qualifications:

  • Volunteers need to be able to lift up to 50 pounds either individually or with a partner (or bring a friend who can lift for you!).
  • When repacking produce, volunteers will need to be able to bend down to grab the produce out of bins that are floor-level.
  • The minimum age to volunteer at the Repack is 16 (youth ages 14-15 can volunteer with a parent or guardian).
  • Registration is required as space is limited.

To register, please contact volunteer@efoodnet.org or (253) 584-1040.

Are you with a group of 8 or more? Groups between 8 to 15 in size can reserve their own Repack Project! Repacks provide a great team-building experience while giving back to the community. Group Repacks can be scheduled Wednesday through Saturday with morning and afternoon sessions available. Give us a call at (253) 584-1040 to learn more.

Mother Earth Farm (Winter Session) @ Emergency Food Network Mother Earth Farm
Feb 2 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

At Mother Earth Farm, we are now growing fresh, organic produce year-round for Pierce County food banks! During the winter months, we distribute more than 13,000 pounds of cool-weather produce such as leafy greens, Brussels sprouts, and tatsoi.

Stay warm and dry while lending a hand at Mother Earth Farm during our winter sessions! Volunteers are needed to help with weeding in our industrial-sized high tunnels. No experience is needed! EFN staff will be on site to provide you with training and supervision. Gloves and tools will be provided. Families and youth groups of all ages are welcome to volunteer at the farm (children ages 15 and under need to be accompanied by an adult).

Registration is required. Due to safety reasons and limited capacity at the farm, we ask volunteers to not drop-in. To register, please contact EFN’s Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@efoodnet.org or (253) 584-1040.

Learn more about the Mother Earth Farm and see our Frequently Asked Questions here!
